Class Descriptions

This class is intended for quilters who have done some free motion quilting, and would like to improve their skills. Emphasis will be on quilting feathers and various background patterns without marking.

Cost: $ 21.00
Try your hand at the art of fabric sculpture in this class that honors Arizona's southwestern landscape. You will create a "Desert in Bloom" cactus centerpiece featuring a Saguaro cactus, an agave plant and blooming barrel cacti on a quilted fabric base. (Class includes a half-hour lunch break.)

Cost: $ 35.00
Create a placid summer pond in Hexie style! Using Rebecca Ruth Design's "Dragonfly Pond" Runner & Placemats pattern, students will use a machine paper piecing technique to create a table runner made up of divided hexagon shapes. You can choose a typical blue and green color scheme or give your project a Southwestern flair with purple dragonflies against a beige background.

Cost: $ 28.00
A two session lecture/demonstration class for those familiar with sewing or quilting who are looking for a refresher course with all of the latest basic techniques. Lots of class handouts and patterns for a homework project are included.

Cost: $ 40.00
Foundation Paper Piecing will show you how to make intricate, accurate blocks with ease and precision. Anyone can do it! In this class you will make a block which can stand alone, or be combined for a larger beautiful block. You will also learn how to make fast, perfect half square triangles using Triangles on a Roll. Don't miss the chance to learn this useful technique!

Cost: $ 21.00
Therapy sewing becomes art. When you don't know what to do next, when your current project has hit the wall, when you can't sew because you don't know where to start, do some "therapy sewing." Sew free-hand cut strips into units. Create windows without worrying whether they are straight or even. Combine commercial prints with batiks and add some hand-printed fabrics. There are no mistakes in this class.

Cost: $ 28.00
Try your hand at miniature quilt making using a theme of your choice (favorite hobby, flowers, seasons, sports, animals, etc.). This class will put a new "spin" on the techniques used to create a traditional pinwheel block. You'll learn fun and new ways of making half-square triangles and other quilting techniques that you may not have used before. Plan to have fun while you watch your miniature "gem" come to life.

Cost: $ 21.00
Using two colors of fabric, we will explore the art of free-hand cutting using the Peppermint Pinwheels pattern in Sujata Shah's book, "Cultural Fusion Quilts." Your inspiration could be a sunset in orange and purple, sunflowers in yellow and green, or even the Arizona Cardinals in red and black/white. Whatever your fancy, the colors are limitless.

Cost: $ 28.00
Spend a day making a flock of improvisational pieced birds. You can put the birds into place mats, small art quilts, or have SO much fun that you end up with a big quilt. It's scrap piecing with a purpose. Bring your Sibley's bird book for even more ideas. The possibilities are endless.

Cost: $ 42.00
Learn the basics of free motion quilting, including stipple quilting, improvising, and following printed designs. Your sewing machine should provide either dropped feed dogs or covered feed dogs. A darning foot is required. You will also need to prepare practice pieces, as specified in the class handout, prior to class.

Cost: $ 21.00
Come on an adventure with us and explore the art of scrap quilting. Using up scraps and orphan blocks from other projects is part of our quilting heritage. Today, advances let us build scrap quilts out of new fabrics such as fat quarters, layer cakes, charm packs, Bali Pops and more. You can bring your scraps, orphans and/or pieces from your stash, or even buy your scraps. We will build some blocks in class that you can add to your home.

Cost: $ 28.00
Do you want to make a quick quilt beginning with a panel and don't know where to start? Jill will show you how to personalize your quilt by adding sashing, borders, and/or blocks...the possibilities are endless.

Cost: $ 28.00
Seminole design was developed by the Seminole Indian tribe of Florida, primarily for embellishing clothing. In her book "Simply Seminole," Dorothy Hanisko points out that the same techniques used to create one-of-a-kind clothing can be used to create one-of-a-kind quilts. We will explore four types of Seminole designs--alternate, stair step, floating and angle--and create a small sample of each.
