Seminole Piecing

Seminole design was developed by the Seminole Indian tribe of Florida primarily for embellishing clothing. Dorothy Hanisko, in the introduction of her book, points out that the same techniques used to create one-of-a-kind clothing can be used to create one-of-a-kind quilts. By choosing four or five Seminole designs and using strips of varying widths and colors between the bands of those designs, dramatic results can be achieved.

Village News

Karla Alexander created a very modern-looking quilt in a selection of solid colors using off-white as negative space (see page 67 in the book.) When Ann built this quilt from her stash, she pulled 12 fat quarters of batiks that made her smile when she put them together on a table. Then she found a border fabric that resulted in a quilt with a clearly southwestern feel. She also added a 1-1/4 inch inner border of deep red. If blues and greens were featured rather than golds and rusts, the quilt would be very different again. Ann will help you create the Village News that speaks to you in this 2 session class.
