Bailey Island Hobo Bag

The Bailey Island Hobo Bag is stylish and functional with four large inside pockets and a shoulder length handle. In the class, Karen will teach you how to add 2 very cute outside pockets to this bag that are not part of the pattern. This bag is a great way to use the leftover batting that is cut from the edges of your large projects after the quilting is done. The class is held in two sessions with some homework in between classes. Finished bag measures approximately 11" x 9" x 3".

Better Free Motion Quilting-Feathers & Backgrounds

Free-Form Piecing

Therapy sewing becomes art. When you don’t know what to do next, when your current project has hit the wall, when you can’t sew because you don’t know where to start, do some ‘therapy sewing.’ Sew free-hand cut strips into units without worrying about how they will be used. Create windows without worrying whether they are straight or even. Combine commercial prints with batiks and add some hand-printed fabrics. Edges will be wonky and seams won’t be straight … and that is all GOOD. If you don’t like something, add another piece, or cut it apart and move the pieces around – sometimes with another piece added - until you like it. There are no mistakes in this class.

Layered Waves

As Karen Eckmeier says in the introduction to Layered Waves, “What if I started with a ‘feeling’ instead of a detailed design? And what if I cut free-form curves with the rotary cutter, pressed the edges under, layered and topstitched them? And what if continued layering and topstitching fabrics in this manner until I had used all my pieces? Wouldn’t that be fun? Yes, it is!” Have a wonderful time in this class as Ann shows you how to do this curvy pieced quilt.

Out of the Box

Using up stash, scraps and orphan blocks from other projects is part of our quilting heritage. If we don’t have a stash and scraps, we can use fat quarters, charm packs, or Bali Pops. Wherever your scraps come from, Ann will show you how to turn them into a stunning quilt.

Cost: $ 24.00
Playtime

Find a wonderful border fabric. Choose a color family for the background squares (the oranges, browns and golds in the sample.) Select a color with high contrast for the crazy bars (a complementary color will generally provide the best effect.) Find sashing and cornerstone hues that complement the blocks and border. Playtime is fun !

T-Shirt Quilt

The class will focus on learning how to use T shirts in creating a quilt. We will plan an interesting layout with sashings and borders of added fabrics to enhance the T shirts in each student’s collection. Hands on work will include preparation and stabilization of the T shirts for quilt blocks. Tips and ideas for sashing designs and sewing with T shirts will be given.
